• Linda SCHWAB seeks information on her family, particularly any surviving members. Linda's father, Karl, was the youngest child when he left Gnadenthau in May 1941 to join the Red Army. He left behind his sister, mother, and two brothers. He was never able to return and believes they all must be dead. It would make a tremendous difference in his life today if he were to receive any information about them. This is what Linda knows of the family:
  Alexander SCHWAB was born in Gnadenthau and died in 1922. He was the son of Friedrich SCHWAB who was an original settler of Gnadenthau and a joiner. Alexander married Christina SCHOENBERG who was born 1883 in Kana. Her family was sent to the Gulag in Siberia in 1929 and believed to be very wealthy and influential in Kana. Their ch:
  1. Alwina was born 1910; married Theodore MILLER who was taken to Siberia in 1937. Their ch: Paul b 1933 and Waldemar b 1935/6
  2. Alexander was born 1915. He would have been in Gnadenthau when deportation occurred as he had already completed his 2 years service in the Red Army. Unmarried at that time.
  3. August was born 1918. Linda's father lost touch with him when they were both serving at the front. His wife was Tanya and they had a son Schura / Alexander.
  4. Karl (Linda's father) was born 13 Mar 1920. Called up to the Red Army and left Gnadenthau 2 May 1941. Never able to return. Escaped to England by a very circuitous route - the stuff of novels.

• Heinz and Elfriede Volk seek information about the WALTER family.  They write:  "While serving as volunteer missionaries in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, my husband and I became friends with Tatiana Walter, whose mother, Maria, was born in Gnadentau in 1928, sent to an orphanage in 1931 (her parents were presumably killed), exiled to Siberia in 1941, then sentenced to 25 years hard labor in Altaigau in 1951.  Maria had a brother, Fedor (Friedrich) whom she lost touch with before 1941 and a sister, Frieda, whom she never met.  Tatiana, who still lives in Russia, has been trying to find some of her mother's relatives, and I am trying to help her.

  Ich suche the Verwandten von Maria Walter (geboren in Gnadentau am 2.3.1928) oder Nachricht, was mit ihnen passiert ist.
   
  Maria Andreevna Walter war in 1931 in ein Weisenheim in dem Saratovsky (Volvograd) Gebiet geschickt. Ihre Eltern, Andrey Ivanovich Walter und Ekaterina Andreevna Walter, waren vermutlich umgebracht oder verschlept oder sind verhungert.
   
  Maria hatte einen aelteren Bruder, Fedor (Friedrich), der sie in dem Weisenheim besucht hat und der als Soldat trainiert wurde unter G. Ordzhinikidtse (г. Орджиникидце). In 1996 erfand sie dass sie auch eine Schwester, Frieda, hatte, leider war sie schon gestorben. Sie hat aber von Frieda's Schwester ein Bild von Fedor bekommen, woauf er in Russische Militaer Uniform ist, mit Offizier's Bezeichnisse.
   
  In 1931, als 13-jaehriges Maedchen, wurde Maria nach Siberien deportiert, zusammen mit anderen Deutschen. Sie waren lange Zeit in dem Zug ohne Essen und ohne Wasser, und als der Zug entlich haltete, war sie mehr tot als lebendig. Auf dem selbdem Zug war eine Elfriede Andreevna Schtabel (Walter) und 6 andere Schtabels (Stabel), die mit ihr verwandt waren. Auf manchen Dokumente war Maria's Patronymic Генриховна, so es ist moeglich, dass ihr Vater's Name Heinrich war.
   
  Weiter weiss ich, dass Maria mit 23 Jahre oder 25 Jahre Schwerarbeit im Altaigau verurteilt wurde. Dort hatte sie 2 Toechter. Eine davon ist Tatiana, die sich spaeter als Naeherin ernaehrte, sodass sie als Polizisten studieren konnte, um etwas ueber ihrer Mutter's Verwandte zu erfahren. Bis jetzt ist es ihr aber nicht gelungen. Wenn sie helfen koennen, waeren wir sehr dankbar.
